Entry Level should be introduced in the pre-school years. The skills targeted at this level are those foundation skills which must actively and explicitly be taught in order to prepare students the for complex world of formal learning.

The Beginning Level should be introduced in the first part of the first year of formal schooling (whether this is a preparatory year or year one). This level continues the skills learned at the Entry Level however the child is also directed towards more formal.

Magic Caterpillar's Building Blocks to Literacy - Skills Level

This is the 3rd level. In this level the formal skills of sound-to-letter and letter- to-sound information are taught and handwriting skills are established. It is at this level that the three domains of Looking, Listening and Moving come together to connect the sounds of language with visual recognition of letters and the ability to write letters using correct formation.

Magic Caterpillar's Building Blocks to Literacy - Application Level

This is the 4th level which applies the skills learned in earlier levels to reading and to written language. This introduces students to the four roles of the reader and to the basics of spelling. It brings all of the domains together in a final 'Rich Task' in which students prepare for and participate in a presentation.
